About the Real LAZ-697R

The LAZ-697 "Tourist" was a two-axle, middle-class intercity coach built by the Lviv Bus Factory in western Ukraine from 1959 to 1985. The LAZ-697R was the final revision, produced from 1978 to 1985: it dropped the rear entry door in favour of a pure touring layout, added roof-mounted air conditioning and rectangular indicators, and offered reclining soft seats with individual reading lights for around 33 passengers. For decades it was the archetypal Soviet long-distance coach, criss-crossing the USSR on tourist and intercity services.
