About the Real Ciferal Padron Rio Volvo B58 Biarticulado

Brazil's first biarticulated bus entered service in Curitiba in 1992, built on a locally produced Volvo B58 chassis with Ciferal Padron Rio bodywork specified by the city. Volvo manufactured the B58 in Curitiba between 1979 and 1998, and the biarticulated B58E version pioneered the high-capacity, exclusive-lane Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) concept that Curitiba exported worldwide. These roughly 28-tonne, three-section vehicles featured five wide doors and a flat floor for level boarding at the city's tube stations. Ciferal Padron Rio bodies were delivered in batches between 1992 and 1996, and examples remained in service for decades, becoming an enduring symbol of Brazilian urban mobility.
