The Mercedes-Benz O405G is the articulated derivative of the O405 city bus family, built at Mercedes-Benz's Mannheim plant in Germany from 1984 to 2002. Rear-engined and typically equipped with the OM447hLA diesel paired to a ZF Ecomat 4HP590 four-speed or Voith DIWA 863.3 three-speed automatic gearbox, the O405G served high-capacity urban routes across Europe and was exported in large numbers to Singapore, Australia, and Latin America. Trans-Island Bus Services alone operated 315 O405Gs in Singapore between 1996 and 2004. The model preceded the Citaro G and remains a benchmark for late-twentieth-century articulated transit design.
