About the Real Mercedes-Benz O405

The Mercedes-Benz O405 is the city bus Daimler-Benz built at its Mannheim plant in Germany from 1984 until 2002, succeeding the long-running O305 and serving as the last bus produced to the VöV SL-II German urban-transit standard. Approximately 12,000 units were built across the family — the O405 base, the low-floor O405N, the low-entry O405NH and the articulated O405G — and the bus saw service in Germany, across much of Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore. Powertrain options ranged from the naturally aspirated Mercedes OM447h diesel in the MkI to the turbocharged OM447hA in the MkII. Production wound down in 2002, replaced by the low-floor Mercedes-Benz Citaro (O530) that had launched in 1997.
