The Mercedes-Benz Citaro O530 is the inaugural generation of the Citaro family, launched at Mercedes-Benz's Mannheim plant in 1997 as the first low-floor European city bus designed from the ground up around step-free boarding. The 12-meter O530 was offered in 2-door and 3-door layouts, with the 3-door configuration favored by transit operators on high-frequency urban routes where passenger throughput matters more than total seating. The first-generation Citaro received a Facelift in 2005 (still designated O530) and was succeeded in 2011 by the Citaro C2. Its OM906-class inline-six diesel under Euro 3 emission standards powered the bus across European cities throughout the 2000s.
