The Ikarus 280.48 brings the most iconic articulated bus of the 20th century to Proton Bus Simulator. The Hungarian-built 280 — a 16.5-metre, four-door "banana bus" with its mid-mounted Rába-MAN diesel and signature accordion joint — defined city transit across the Eastern Bloc and far beyond. This conversion recreates the classic with a full interior, sun blinds, roll-blind destination signs and five liveries.

About the Real Ikarus 280

The Ikarus 280 is the definitive articulated bus of the late 20th century. Built by the Hungarian manufacturer Ikarus from 1973 to 2002, more than 61,000 were produced — at its peak, roughly two-thirds of all articulated buses made in the world were Ikarus 280s. The 16.5-metre design joins two rigid sections with a pivoting accordion joint, carries around 140 passengers, and is powered by a mid-mounted Rába-MAN D2156 inline-six driving the centre axle in a "puller" layout. A fixture of city fleets across the Eastern Bloc, the Soviet Union and many other markets, its boxy silhouette and rumbling diesel made it one of the most recognizable buses ever built — affectionately nicknamed the "banana bus" for the way it bends through corners.
