Mod Optare Spectra — British DAF DB250 Double-Decker Mod - Vista Principal/Lateral (Proton Bus Simulator)

Optare Spectra — Leeds-Built British Double-Decker

The Spectra was Optare's double-decker, built in Leeds on a chassis the company developed jointly with DAF. This pack ships all three body heights the real bus was offered in — standard height, low height and the low-floor DB250LF — as separate selectable variants. Right-hand drive throughout, with a multiplex panel, a reversing camera, eight liveries and both electronic and plate destination displays.

About the Real Optare Spectra

The Spectra came out of Optare's works at Cross Gates, Leeds, and was built between 1991 and 2006. It was a United Bus project: Optare and DAF combined elements of the MCW Metrobus with the SB220 to create a new double-deck chassis, the DB250, and Optare clothed it with the Spectra body. Power came from a DAF HS 200 rated at 272 bhp, and the step-entrance version carried 85 passengers, 71 of them seated. Wilts & Dorset became the largest operator with 78 buses, while Abus of Bristol put Britain's first low-floor double-decker into service on 4 February 1998.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Optare Spectra work on Android?
Yes. It runs on both the Android and Windows builds of Proton Bus Simulator and needs version 300 or newer. The package was compressed to under half its original size, so it downloads and loads comfortably.
Is the Spectra an Optare or a DAF?
Both, in a sense. DAF supplied the DB250 chassis, developed jointly under the United Bus umbrella, and Optare designed and built the bodywork in Leeds. The Spectra name refers to the Optare body.
Why is the driver on the right?
Because it is a British bus. The Spectra was built for the UK market, where traffic drives on the left, so the cab and the passenger door sit on the opposite side to most mods in the catalogue.
